PIRATE ROBOTICS
FAQ
The following is a list of the common questions we are asked about Pirate Robotics. If you have a question that is not answered below, send us a message via the contacts page and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Who can participate in Robotics?
Pirate Robotics is a FIRST® Robotics club of West Carrollton High School. Students in grades 9 - 12 are eligible to participate. An informational meeting is held in the first quarter of the school year for interested students.
How do I join the team?
Attend one of the first Robotics meetings of the year or contact Mr. Neal to apply.
How often does the team meet?
Meetings vary based on subgroups. During the six week build season, the build and programming teams meet Monday through Thursday after school until 5 PM as well as Saturdays from 10:30 AM to 2 PM. The marketing team meets every other Saturday from 10:30 AM to 2 PM as well as Mondays and Wednesdays after school until 5 PM. Members may also be required to attend events. See the Forms page for full schedules.
How long does the season last?
The build season officially kicks off in January and lasts until the end of February with competitions occurring in March and April. However, there will be scheduled activities for education, team-building, and fundraising in the "off season" (first half of the school year). The marketing team may also host meetings before the official season begins to plan outreach events.
Can I participate in Robotics if I'm in additional activities?
Involvement in activities other than Pirate Robotics is permitted, however the time commitment may make it very difficult to fully participate. During the six week build season, attendance is mandatory in order to participate in competitions.
How can I receive a letter?
In order to receive a WCHS letter, students must participate and attend all competitions for two years. A 90% attendance requirement is required to travel.
